We love the spirit of the do-it-yourself folks, and have collated a list of our favorite guides to building your own. We hope you find these helpful, and please let us know if we didn’t include your favorite guide.

DIY Fire Pit: Using Concrete Tree Rings

Very clever, and perhaps the simplest of the DIY projects. Assembly is as easy as picking up some tree ring bricks as Lowe’s or Home Depot, making 2 concentric circles, filling in the gap with stone, and dropping in a small grill. Quick and easy, this one can be done in less than a day.

How To Make a Swedish Fire Torch

Also known as a Canadian Candle or a Scandinavian Fire Torch, this is brilliant in its simplicity. A technique that supposedly dates back to the 17th century, this is a fantastic idea if you’re camping or just need an ad-hoc fire to gather around.

This is just a matter of taking a single log, slicing it, adding some kindling, lighting it, and it serves as its own fuel.

Of course this is much different than our other DIY fire pit projects, but it’s so clever, we couldn’t resist adding it to the list. Love this.

Concrete Fire Pit – HomeMade Modern

From the terrific HomeMade Modern, here’s a simple and elegant fire pit. You’ll be pouring your own concrete, as well as making your own formwork.

This is probably our favorite DIY project of the bunch.

DIY Fire Pit Table Top

This project isn’t about the fire pit itself, but how to build a nice looking cover for your fire pit. When you’re done, you’ll have a handy table top that you can use for just about anything.

The beauty of this project is that it’s very simple to complete, and therefore you don’t have to worry about the top getting used and abused. With that said, it’s a good idea to finish the top with something that will withstand the elements.

DIY Fire Pit Using Pavers

Another, very simple way to get a fire pit going for little money or time invested. Much like the tree rings, everything here you can pick up at your local home center. The biggest challenge you’ll have is deciding which style of paver you’ll go with. After that, it’s just marking, digging, stacking and filling with gravel. Enjoy.

Make a DIY Modern Concrete Fire Pit from Scratch

Wow, this one is a stunner. Definitely more involved than some of others on this list, but if you’re the handy type, the results are well worth the effort.

Chris over at ManMade walks through the process of creating a beautiful, modern fire bowl. You’ll need to pour concrete to get the form right, but don’t sweat it, the steps are all there.

Cool and Compact Fire Pit from Half a Sheet of Steel

Not really my style, but it certainly has it’s charms, this tutorial will definitely get you a one-of-a-kind fire pit for your back yard.

You’ll need some welding experience and an angle grinder.

That’s our list for now. We’ll be sure to update it as we discover new and wonderful projects. Of course contact us if you’ve built one of these or have a DIY project to add to the list.
